EverGrain Built
How EverGrain Built works
EverGrain Built is a free matching and guide service for homeowners who want an energy-efficient, green, or passive home. You tell us about your project, we help you connect with experienced builders near you, and you compare your options and choose who to hire.
1. Tell us about your project
Start by sharing the basics of your home and your goals at /get-matched/. This helps us understand what kind of builder may fit your project.
You can tell us things like your location, timeline, budget range, and whether you want a new custom home, a major rebuild, or a high-performance upgrade. You can also note goals like lower energy use, better insulation, airtight construction, heat pumps, solar readiness, or a path toward net-zero.
If you are new to green building, that is okay. Simple notes are enough. We can help you learn common terms like R-value, blower-door testing, HRV or ERV ventilation, window U-factor, and SHGC through our /learn/ and /systems/ pages.
2. We match you with builders near you
After we review your project details, we look for custom-home builders in your area who appear to fit your goals. EverGrain Built is not a builder, architect, or contractor. We are a free matching service.
We focus on builders with experience or interest in better building practices, such as:
- strong insulation and careful air sealing
- blower-door testing and attention to airtightness
- efficient windows and doors
- heat pump heating and cooling
- balanced ventilation, such as HRV or ERV systems
- all-electric or solar-ready design goals
Availability, scope, price, and final fit vary by builder and project. We do not promise a certain result, cost, comfort level, or certification. You should confirm all details directly with each licensed builder.
3. Compare, ask questions, and learn
Once you receive matches, take time to compare them. Ask each builder how they approach energy performance, moisture control, insulation levels, HVAC sizing, ventilation, and air sealing.
Good questions to ask include:
- Have you built homes with airtightness targets or blower-door testing?
- What insulation levels or wall and roof assemblies do you commonly use?
- How do you handle ventilation, such as HRV or ERV systems?
- What is included in your scope, and what is priced separately?
Ask for clear written proposals. Review allowances, exclusions, change-order rules, permits, and who is responsible for design, engineering, and testing. Our /costs/ and /learn/ pages can help you prepare.
4. Choose who to hire, and get it in writing
You stay in control the whole time. EverGrain Built does not assign a builder to you. You compare your options and decide whether to move forward with one of them, or with no one at all.
Before you sign, make sure the final scope, price, timeline, materials, and performance goals are written clearly in your agreement. If you want features like specific window performance, heat pumps, an ERV, higher R-values, or a blower-door test, ask for those items to be listed in writing.
Our role is to help you make a better start. The builder you hire is the one who provides the actual work, contract, and pricing.
You tell us what you want, we help you find builders to compare, and you choose who to hire. It is free, and you stay in control from start to finish.
Common questions
Is EverGrain Built really free for homeowners?
Yes. EverGrain Built is a free matching and guide service for homeowners. You are not paying us to compare builders. If you choose to hire a builder, your contract and payment are between you and that builder.
Do I have to want a certified passive house or net-zero home?
No. Some homeowners want a very high-performance home. Others just want a better-built, more efficient home with good insulation, airtightness, and healthy ventilation. We can help with both. Final results depend on design, climate, site, budget, and the builder you hire.
Can you tell me what my project will cost or how much I will save?
No. Costs and savings vary a lot by size, design, land, climate, materials, labor market, and builder. We can help you learn what affects cost and what questions to ask, but you should get detailed written pricing from the licensed builder you may hire.
What if I do not know the right building terms yet?
That is common. You do not need to be an expert to get matched. We can point you to simple resources on [/learn/](/learn/) and [/systems/](/systems/) so you can ask better questions and compare builders with more confidence.
